Hunter’s Dens: Six Gestures of Masculinity

Project type

Site-Specific Installation & Critical Intervention

Date

Septembre 2025

Location

Manitoulin Island, Canada

Along a woodland trail, six reimagined hunting dens become sites of reflection, critique, and transformation. Once built for concealment, vigilance, and control, these dens are recast as installations that question what masculinity is, how it is performed, and how it might unravel.
Drawing on the work of Judith Butler, Byung-Chul Han, bell hooks, Michel Foucault, and Roland Barthes, the project stages masculinity in six variations — performance, exhaustion, refusal, surveillance, parody, and absence. Each den engages with the hunter’s architecture not as a tool of domination, but as a stage for vulnerability, fragility, and potential undoing.
